Chiropractic care is a holistic hands-on health care profession that focuses on non-invasive pain relief, proper biomechanics and optimal health and wellness. Chiropractors are trained extensively in a variety of techniques that focus on the bones, nerves, joints, and soft tissues of the body. The body is a very complex system that undergoes excessive amounts of stress and wear and tear on a regular basis, thus it is important to keep it functioning properly and adequately. It is often heard that everything in the body is interconnected but what does that actually mean?
The musculoskeletal system consists of bones that become joint capsules which become tendons which become muscles. All these structures are seamlessly connected and as such share the burden of injury and stress which is why we focus on the body as a whole. We mobilize and adjust the joints to release tension from the joint capsules. We apply soft tissue therapy and instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization to the tendons and muscles to realign scar tissue. We prescribe goal-driven movement and exercises to reinforce proper function. We do not simply “crack joints”, we rehabilitate movement to enhance wellness.
Chiropractic care also has a very powerful effect on the nervous system. Nerves exit the spine through holes called foramen. These foramen are lined with joint capsules which when irritated can be very inflamed and swollen. This effectively decreases the space of the foramen and squeezes the nerves causing nerve impingement. Adjustments and mobilizations decrease joint irritation and inflammation resulting in decreased nerve impingement. We are also skilled in nerve stretching and mobilizations to help oxygenate the nerve, enhancing recovery and optimal performance.
